Recycling Trailers Removed 1-28-19

For Immediate Release

The Town of Abingdon’s public recycling bins have been removed from the parking lots of the Abingdon Police Department and the Coomes Recreation Center due to the closing of the disposal facility. The town contracted with Tri-Cities Waste Paper to handle the materials in the recycling bins. On Friday, January 25, 2019, they refused to allow the Town to unload the materials and informed us they would be closing the business on February 15th. Public works staff is attempting to find another recycling facility to take the material.  Until another recycling vendor is identified to handle the material, the recycling bins will not be out for use. We will provide an update once a recycling vendor is identified and the bins are available for use.
