The Gallery @ Barr Photographics announces the fall installment of the Corner Gallery’s 2020 exhibition series

The Gallery @ Barr Photographics announces the fall installment of the Corner Gallery’s 2020 exhibition series with a debut exhibit of watercolor paintings entitled “Reimagined” by a Rogersville, Tennessee, emerging artist, Shauna Henard Slaughter.

Mrs. Slaughter reveals in her biographical sketch, “I was born in a small town called Rogersville in Tennessee. My parents were Otis and Dorothy Henard and I am the youngest of 3 children, as a young child, my dream was to become an architect and looking back on that dream, maybe the artist inside of me was there all along. I was married to the father of my two children for thirty years and we opened and managed a very successful industrial business while raising our children. The marriage ended in 2008 and I sold my shares in the business and retired from business life. After retirement, I reconnected with a man who I had known for my entire life and after a while, we began to date. This man helped me to become more confident, encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and after dating for years, we married in 2015.  His name is John Slaughter, a wonderful man who encourages me daily, to find my inner artist! Since retiring, together, John and I have traveled extensively throughout the world. I am developing a better knowledge of fine art and art history, leading to a greater development of my artistic skills. I’m now finding ways to draw the next chapter of my life!” She further reveals, “Professional business ventures had never been difficult for me but tapping into my creative side was more of a challenge until I became part of a small-town local art class. At the beginning of my creative journey I used simple skills as a therapy for my soul, however being blessed to travel extensively, my interest in art from all corners of the world began to develop. This class gave me more courage and self-confidence along with the support from John, to respect and pursue in earnest, my new found talent. Now seven years later I am ready to present my work in my very first art show. My hope is that all will enjoy the paintings as much as I have enjoyed the journey”.

Shauna reveals in her artist’s statement, “Inspiration arises from seeing the beauty in all the landscapes of my East Tennessee home as well as throughout the world. I have seen the majestic animals of the west, the vibrant colors of Peru, the stillness of snow in Norway and my travels have allowed me to come to the realization that there is so much to see in God’s creation. Simple things such as the eyes of a kitten, the fruit of the harvest, and the birds of the air will always be my creative centering point.

“Reimagined” will be celebrated with a reception, gallery talk, and demonstration of technique by Shauna Henard Slaughter, to which the public is cordially invited, on Friday, 16 October from 7 - 9:00 PM in The Gallery @ Barr Photographics, 152 E. Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia. Masks and Social Distancing REQUIRED!  “Reimagined” will hang, and be offered for sale, through 30, November.   The Gallery @ Barr Photographics is housed in the Greenway Trigg Building, located in the heart of Abingdon’s main street historic district.  Please call 276- 628-1486 or visit http://barrphotographics.com for further information.
