For Immediate Release

Virginia Highlands Community College Active Shooter Exercise
On Friday, March 25th, 2016, Virginia Highlands Community College will be conducting an active shooter exercise on the college campus (100 VHCC Drive, Abingdon) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and noon. During the exercise, multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency response agencies will be participating causing some congestion along French Moore Jr. Boulevard. The area of VHCC Drive and Opportunity Lane will be closed during the exercise, but French Moore Jr. Boulevard will remain open. If there are any issues, we advise you contact Washington County Central Dispatch at 276-676-6285.

Please remember that this is only an exercise, but you may hear loud sirens and blank gunshots. Do not be alarmed! These types of preventative trainings are conducted regularly by law enforcement to be better prepared should a tragedy occur in our area. If you have any further questions, you can contact Chief Andis at 276-739-2582.

We ask drivers to be alert, slow their speeds, and not impede traffic in the area of the VHCC campus during the exercise. Thank you for your cooperation!

Reminder: The Washington County Administration Building will be CLOSED on Friday, March 25th, in observance of a state/federal holiday.
