Construction Work Notice For VA Creeper Trail
Construction Work Notice:
The Virginia Department of Transportation will be
conducting repair work on the Northbound and Southbound bridges of I-81 over
the Virginia Creeper Trail. The repair work is scheduled to begin on Monday
night, April 24th, 2017.
For the next several weeks, the repair work will
take place at night from below the bridge, with periodic night-time lane
closures on I-81 NB and SB as necessary. Flaggers will be utilized on the
trail to protect pedestrian traffic while bridge work is taking place.
*As a
reminder the Virginia Creeper Trail is only accessible from dawn to dusk.

IMMEDIATE Road Closure - Colonial Road, Main Street to Old Reedy Creek Rd
TRAFFIC ALERT:
A section of Colonial Road from Main Street (at TruPoint Bank) to Old Reedy Creek Road will be CLOSED to through traffic until sometime this evening for utility crews to repair a damaged power pole and line. Utility crew flaggers will be present to allow local access for residents and businesses in the closed section of Colonial Road.
Residents on Campbell, Fulkerson, Gilliam and Mosby, and Hughes are asked to use Hassinger Street to get to Colonial Road, and Old Reedy Creek Road to get to Main Street.

United Way Yard Sale Donations
It’s time for spring cleaning…so why not donate
those unwanted items to the Town of Abingdon/United Way Yard Sale. The Town of
Abingdon is accepting donations for the yard sale on Plumb Alley Day. If you
have items you would like to donate, contact Kim Kingsley at 276-492-2138 to
make arrangements to drop your items off or to have your items picked up. When
you give your items, you will receive a tax deduction receipt in return. All
proceeds from the yard sale benefit United Way of Southwest Virginia and stay
in Washington County, VA!

Town
of Abingdon, Virginia New Utility Billing
The Town of Abingdon, VA will be using a new billing
format starting April 2017. The “post card” type bill will no longer be mailed
to customers. The bill will now be letter sized and be mailed out in windowed
envelopes. The new bill will contain more data than previously seen on the card
like bills. These bills will provide useful information to customers and the
new format will be easier to read. A copy of the new bill is attached below.

Sustain Abingdon presents the 2nd Annual Town of Abingdon Community Garden
The Sustain Abingdon committee, which is comprised
of town employees and citizens, has organized the community garden project for
the second year in a row. The Town of Abingdon Community Garden will be located
at Fairview Historic Homestead, 908 Hillman Highway, Abingdon, VA. Only twenty
(20) plots will be available and the limit is one (1) per household. The 20’ x
20’ plots will be leased for $40.00. The lease price includes access to
water for all gardeners on a daily basis.
Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age and MUST be a Town of
Abingdon resident. Planting for the community garden will begin May 1st,
2017.
If you are interested in applying for a community
garden plot, pick up an application April 3- April 28, 2017. The applications
must be picked up in-person on the 2nd Floor of the Town Hall (133
West Main Street, Abingdon) between 8:30AM-4:00PM. For questions about the
community garden, call 276-628-3167.
