The basic ceremony will consist of the opening, posting of Colors, Tree Dedications, and closing. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 11:00 am. There will not be any form of shuttle service running or manned booths. If you are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms, have had exposure in the past 14 days, are awaiting test results, or are at increased risk of illness we ask you not to make any plans for in-person attendance. Ribbon Campaign to Support Healthcare Workers

The Town of Abingdon and the Washington County, VA Chamber of Commerce are joining together for the Apricot Ribbon Campaign to honor and celebrate the healthcare workers in our area.

As cases of COVID-19 rise in our region, it is important to show support for all the doctors, nurses, and front line workers who are battling this crisis. Our area hospitals are almost at capacity with patients and have started deferring procedures unless they are an emergency. It is very important to show support and lift the spirits of our healthcare workers during this time when they are exhausted and risking their lives.

The Town of Abingdon and the Chamber will display ribbons in various locations and encourage the community to place them at their residences and/or businesses. With the help of volunteers, there will be over 300 ribbons made to display.  You can pick up ribbons at Abingdon Town Hall (133 West Main Street) or the Washington County Chamber of Commerce (One Government Center Place).

“As Mayor of the Town of Abingdon, and a Pharmacist in our community, I completely support this campaign, and anyway we can show support for our healthcare workers, said Mayor Derek Webb. With COVID-19 numbers on the rise, it is important to show how the Town of Abingdon can support healthcare workers by displaying these ribbons throughout the town.”

The ribbon and supplies to make the bows were generously provided by Misty’s Florist of Abingdon and the Floral Department of the Abingdon Food City, in addition to community donations.

*The Apricot Ribbon Campaign was started by the Kentucky Nurses Association. The color apricot represents nursing and is the color of optimism and warmth.
