and Abingdon celebrate “50 Years of Love” at a media pop-up event held at
the
Virginia Welcome Center in Bristol
ABINGDON,
Va.— This year marks the 50th anniversary of the famed “Virginia is
for Lovers” marketing campaign, which debuted in 1969. To celebrate its
ongoing success, tourism officials from Abingdon and Bristol will join
representatives from Virginia Tourism Corporation for a media pop-up event
Friday July 19, from 11am to 2pm at the Virginia Welcome Center in Bristol.
Learn how Abingdon and Bristol are celebrating “50 Years of Love” with special
events and promotions, and preview the special 3d LOVEwork commissioned by
Virginia Tourism Corporation.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Virginia is for
Lovers,® a special 3D LOVEwork was created and will be featured at 50 Years of
Love events at Virginia
Welcome Centers June 21 through August 10. Events will offer all
travelers visiting Welcome Centers the opportunity to take photos with the 3D
artwork, receive a commemorative postcard of the LOVEwork and participate in a
raffle for special prizes.
The artwork was created by award-winning artist Melanie
Stimmell Van Latum, founder of We Talk Chalk, a 3D street painting company. Van Latum has
created paintings for clients all over the world and has been awarded the title
of Maestra Madonnari (master street painter and chalk artist) in both Italy and
Germany. She has created 18 historic murals in the Northern Neck of
Virginia, and collaborated with the town of Montross to create their LOVE sign.
