Abingdon Main Street
Announces Silver Lining Grant Program:
Abingdon
Main Street, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Housing and
Community Development (VDHCD), is excited to announce the launch of a small
business relief grant program made available to qualifying Abingdon small
businesses.
Abingdon
Main Street’s Executive Director Nicole Childress announced the program on
Thursday afternoon. “The small businesses along Main Street are the
heartbeat of our community. During the pandemic, they have really gone above
and beyond to keep their businesses going. Many will need to continue to shift
how they do business to accommodate the needs of the public in light of new
restrictions. This grant fund will be directed toward assisting those
shifts.”
“We are
witnessing economic devastation across the country. In light of this downturn,
businesses may not have funds readily accessible to make improvements in their
businesses, and that’s the gap we would like to help bridge. These grants will
make funds available for local businesses to pivot their models: to perhaps
upgrade a point-of-sale system or create an online shop, or purchase equipment
to expand take-out/pick-up options. By offering this partnership we hope that
it encourages our small businesses to stay open and continue serving our
community as we regroup and move forward.”
Abingdon
Main Street Silver Lining Grant applications will be accepted from any
qualifying Abingdon business beginning
on Friday, July 17, 2020. Each application will be considered in order of
when it is received and grants will be distributed as long as funding allows.
To qualify you must be a small business (service, retail, or restaurant only)
located within the Abingdon Main Street district, running roughly from William
King Museum to Zazzy’z. To learn more about the Abingdon Main Street district

Awardees
will be required to remain operational in accordance with CDC guidelines and
