Keep Your Lights Up for Healthcare Workers

The Town of Abingdon, Virginia is pleased to join in the national campaign #LightsUp4Heroes. We encourage everyone to “Keep Your Lights Up for Healthcare Workers” until January 31, 2021. After nine months of fighting COVID-19, healthcare workers are feeling exhausted and are needing support more than ever. The twinkling of holiday lights provides everyone with an emotional boost, and these lights have become a sign of hope and normalcy. By leaving these lights up, it is a way to say thank you to those who work in the healthcare profession, and an easy way to help.

“This national campaign ties in with the Apricot Ribbon Campaign, and shows that our community is willing to support our healthcare workers,” said Mayor Derek Webb. “The Town of Abingdon will leave holiday lighting up on Main Street through January in hopes that we can boost the spirits of our regional healthcare workers while they fight the COVID-19 battle.”

We are asking citizens, businesses, and the community to do the following to show support:

1.     Keep your holiday lights up until January 31, 2021.

2.     Help spread this message by sharing photos of your holiday lights throughout January on social media with the hashtag- #LightsUp4Heroes, and tag a healthcare worker or facility to say thank you.

3.     Continue to thank our healthcare workers for all they are doing to end this pandemic.

“As we continue to combat COVID-19, it is so encouraging to see the outpouring of support from our community for our healthcare professionals,” says Johnston Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer, John Jeter. “Together, we are doing everything possible to slow the spread of this virus amidst unprecedented challenges, and the continued support from our community helps to motivate our team every day. We will continue to help our community navigate the COVID-19 situation as safely as possible. We will get through this together.”
